Michele M. Consiglio, DVM — Chief of Staff
Originally from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, Dr. Consiglio, our Chief of Staff, received an undergraduate degree in business administration from Providence College, a bachelor's in biology from Assumption College and an associate’s degree in veterinary technology from Becker College. She then worked for several years in pathology at both Harvard Medical School and University of Washington before deciding that veterinary medicine was her true calling. Dr. Consiglio obtained her DVM from St. Georges University, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Prior to joining the staff at West Shore Animal Clinic in 2006, Dr. Consiglio worked as a general practitioner in New York state.
Professionally, Dr. Consiglio enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, with a special interest in dermatology and tick born disease. When not working, she loves traveling, gardening, and enjoying the best beaches in New England found here in Rhode Island. She currently lives here in Warwick with her Boston Terrier Serafina and her black cats: Loki and Nyx and a retired Marine named Peter.
Kaitlin Gelsomino, DVM
Originally from North Providence, Rhode Island, Dr. Gelsomino received an undergraduate degree in 2005 from North Carolina State University. Dr. Gelsomino originally joined the staff at West Shore Animal Clinic in 2006 as a receptionist working alongside her sister Meghan. After a couple of years as a technician, she too found her true calling as a veterinarian and went to Veterinary school.
Dr. Gelsomino obtained her DVM from St. Georges University, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. She completed her internship at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists 2013 and completed her circle by returning to us at West Shore in 2013.
Dr. Gelsomino currently lives in Cranston with her husband Ed, her two daughters, Charlotte and Lena, a bearded dragon Bowser, a ball python Suri and her cats Toby, Leo, Emily, and Kira. Professionally, Dr. Gelsomino has a special interest in surgery. When not at the office, Dr. Gelsomino can be found hiking, kayaking, and wine tasting- sometimes with Leo in tow.
Kathryn Proulx, DVM
Dr. Kathryn Proulx is a born and bred Rhode Islander. A graduate of Tiverton High School in Tiverton, Rhode Island, Dr. Proulx received an undergraduate degree in 2010 from the University of Rhode Island where she expanded her undergraduate education with a year abroad traveling in Australia. She returned home and worked at New Hampshire’s Clark Trading Post for a bit before continuing on to veterinary medicine.
Dr. Proulx obtained her DVM from Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014 and completed a one-year rotation at Colorado State University. Prior to joining the staff at West Shore Animal Clinic in 2015, Dr. Proulx interned at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists.
When she’s away from the clinic, she loves spending time out on the bay boating with her family or finding the best IPA in Rhode Island. She currently lives in Tiverton with her husband Chris, their son, Owen, Olive the golden retriever, and her cats Owki, Gracie, Murray, and Pepper.
Devon Young, DVM
Dr. Devon Young grew up in Connecticut and currently resides in Rhode Island. She received a B.A. in Music from Ithaca College and a B.S. from the University of Connecticut. She then went on to earn a DVM degree from Cornell University. Prior to joining the West Shore Animal Clinic team, Dr. Young practiced at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists and Bay State Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Services as an Emergency Doctor; and practiced at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists for a rotating internship. In addition to preventive care, Dr. Young has special interests in Urgent and Emergency Care, and Internal Medicine.
